This advertising campaign aims to help stop the extinction of the Lord Howe Island Stick Insect. Years ago I bought a pair of stick insects as a present for my partner, and over a few years 2 turned into nearly a 100. We quickly became stick insect enthusiasts and breeders, which is when I found out about the Lord Howe Island Stick Insect, believed to be the rarest insect in the world. For over 70 years it was believed to be extinct. Today there are estimated to be between 9 and 30 left in the wild, living on a small sea stack in the pacific Ocean- part of Australia.
You can't help an issue that you know nothing about, so my campaign was aimed at bringing interest and awareness to these very special, fascinating creatures. My target audience were children and families, who are the main visitors of Zoos Victoria, my client. Zoos Victoria have been running a breeding program since a couple of these insects were first allowed to be removed from Ball's Pyramid, the only known place they live in the wild.
I created three different ads for the campaign; a two-page digital magazine spread for Time Out Melbourne, an animated HTML5 Banner Ad, and a 15 second video for Instagram.
I created the magazine spread in Adobe Illustrator, the HTML5 banner ad in Adobe Animate, and the 15 second Instagram video in Adobe After Effects.
