Wooden Blocks
In 2024 I saw 'Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine' at the MCA, Sydney. I hadn’t encountered his work before and was captivated by it, with many of his series exploring themes that have held my interest over the years. I was very interested in his photographs of scientific models and they inspired this series.
I had been interested in working with wood for a long time and had collected many different blocks over the years, and made some myself. I love the unique nature of wood, its variations, and the feeling of holding a polished block in my hands. It is comforting in a world where we are surrounded by so many unnatural, machine-made objects.
