M16 Artspace
Blockwork is an exhibition of nine black-and-white photographs, each constructed in the studio. Each image is created using a simple set: a single piece of plywood, a black-painted board, and carefully controlled lighting. Within this restricted space, the artist arranges a collection of wooden blocks — some found, others made specifically for the project — into temporary structures.
Through shifts in scale, composition, light and shadow, these modest, ordinary objects are transformed into forms that suggest architecture, monuments, or fragments of an imagined built environment. The photographs hold these structures in a moment of stillness, giving weight and permanence to arrangements that are, in reality, temporary and fragile.
